The baseball team (19-14) split with Schenectady County Community College (24-17) on Wednesday afternoon. Game one was a makeup game in which the Vikings led 3-1 after three innings and they went on to win 5-1. The Vikings dropped game two to the Royals 3-2.
Hudson Valley tacked on two more runs in game one to earn the 5-1 victory. Charles Parslow (Fonda-Fultonville/Fonda) picked up the win in relief, throwing two perfect innings with two strikeouts, and Josh Temple (Cohoes/Cohoes) earned the save, pitching a scoreless sixth and seventh inning. Andy Kozak (Sidney/Sidney) led the team with two hits, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Bradley Adams (Catholic Central/Troy), John Craig (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park), Alex Lushkevich (Saratoga/Saratoga Springs) and Brett Fenton (Catholic Central/Troy) each recorded two hits apiece in the win.
Schenectady broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning, which ended up being the game winning run. Jonas Goodell (Columbia/East Greenbush) led the team with two hits, a run scored and a stolen base. Alex Helenek (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and Matt Leonardo (Colonie/Colonie) recorded the teams two RBIs in the loss.
The Vikings had already clinched a post-season berth, but will wait for official confirmation on who they will play this weekend in a best-of-three series.
