remediation of under-prepared students is an expensive obligation and (as suggested by drew’s comments) a contributing factor to student failure. this and many other problems with K-12 seem to directly challenge our ability to ensure the success of our students.
one of my concerns with the growing use of ‘credit recovery’ is that virtually any required HS course can now be ‘bypassed”. see:

what motivates a marginal student to take the full term course when the perception is that credit can easily be earned by ‘novanetting’ a class?? the criticism of the growing use of this option by NYC school districts has been referred to as the city’s “race to the bottom”…

Just to clarify – the Tech Park they frequent is the Greenbush Tech Park further south on Route 4 near Exit 9. They are not yet stopping in the Rensselaer Tech Park on Jordan Road, but we’re anxiously waiting for the day when they do get permission to stop here.

The area most affected will be the user seating in the “green zone” collaboration area on the first floor adjacent to the windows facing east. Disposable foam ear plugs are available from the circulation desk on the first floor; these may not be necessary, but they are available as a courtesy to library users.

I do not think it is appropriate to use the campus news letter to singularly address Easter to the exclusion of other faiths’ holiday practices or beliefs. I too wish for world peace, but a public college has no authority to allow only Christian representation and voice.

Thanks for your comment. Just to clarify for you and others … we provided Harris Connect with the information we have on file for alumni. They are using it for the sole purpose of compiling the directory which will be offered for sale to alumni. No outside companies will be allowed to purchase the directory, and Harris will not sell our list to anyone else.

In purchasing the directory, alumni acknowledge that it is for personal use only. While it would be possible to use the directory for other purposes, it is not easy to do so – one would need to comb through the directory in search of specific information, and if the directory is purchased on CD-ROM the purchaser is unable to simply download the information into an electronic format that can be used for marketing/mailing purposes.

I hope this helps – if you have further questions feel free to call the Foundation office at 629-8012.

Catherine, I should clarify for the newer members of the HVCC community. WE stands for Women’s Enterprise and we are an organization of members from Hudson Valley who are committed to maintaining community spirit through social, philanthropic and educational endeavors. We offer scholarships to students and staff to further their education. In addition to the Art Show, we have an annual spring luncheon and other events to raise funds and give out scholarships.
