Editorial Guidelines

 

Mission:
The Campus Chronicle is the official employee newsletter of Hudson Valley Community College and provides information to help employees stay informed of college business, policies, news and events.

The Campus Chronicle includes “user-generated” announcements and informational items for the college’s faculty and staff.

As of August 2012, the Chronicle also allows members of the faculty and college staff to post announcements to the student body. These announcements appear on the Students page (www.hvcc.edu/students) and in MyHudsonValley Portal/Blackboard.

Please note: the Campus Chronicle is not distributed to the student body. If you are interested in posting an announcement to the student body you must post it using the Campus Chronicle and select “Student Announcement” when submitting the item.

Circulation/Schedule:
A link to the Campus Chronicle is e-mailed to the Hudson Valley Community College employees list daily, Monday through Friday, during the fall and spring semesters, and on an “as needed” basis during the summer months and breaks between semesters. A link to the site also is located on the Faculty & Staff page (www.hvcc.edu/faculty-staff) and in  MyHudsonValley Portal/Blackboard. The direct Web address for the Campus Chronicle is http://chronicle.hvcc.edu.

Content/Editorial Guidelines:

Please use the Campus Chronicle to deliver news, information and announcements to the entire campus community. “All-employee” e-mails should be used only in emergency or time sensitive situations.

To submit a story, visit http://chronicle.hvcc.edu, and click on the “Submit Article” link in the upper part of the left column. This will take you to a log-in page where you can submit your college username and password to access the Campus Chronicle submission page. For more information about submitting a story and the options available, please see the Getting Started information below.

Submissions should be of general interest to the campus community. Submissions that represent prohibited conduct (harassing, inflammatory or hateful acts), as defined in the Campus Regulations for Students, Visitors and College Personnel, and Organizations in the college catalog, will not be accepted for publication.

The Campus Chronicle will be edited for content and interest to the college community by a staff member of the Office of Communications and Marketing. Information will be organized under the headings of General News, Events, Sports, Accolades and Classifieds. Chronicle editors will decide in which category your posting will appear.

Please note the following regarding the Classifieds listing:
Items for sale, swap or wanted on campus and off campus will be accepted. These items may be placed by current employees, retirees or board members.

Getting Started
Chronicle submissions should be made through the Submit Article link on the Chronicle main page, http://chronicle.hvcc.edu. Contributors without e-mail access may fax to (518) 629-8070 or deliver a written submission to the Office of Communications and Marketing, Guenther Enrollment Services Center, Room 267. Submissions will be listed under the name of the submitter.

The tool bar that accompanies the Campus Chronicle article submission form allows you to incorporate hot links, images, format text (add bold, italics, bulleted lists, etc.), and spell check your submission.  Finally, the Chronicle allows for comments on individual posts, adding to the interactivity of the e-newsletter.
