Sophomore linebacker Gordie Pine (New Paltz/Gardiner, NY) earned NJCAA National Defensive Player of the Week honors on Wednesday afternoon.
Despite falling 30-24 to Alfred State, the Vikings were able to keep the contest close thanks to two tremendous plays by Pine. Trailing 22-8 midway through the third quarter, Hudson Valley got back in the game with Pine’s 41-yard fumble return for a touchdown. In the fourth quarter, the sophomore returned another fumble for a touchdown from 48 yards out. Pine added six tackles – three solo – including a tackle for loss and a broken up pass in the Viking’s season finale.
