On Monday, Nov. 19 at 4:30 p.m., Matt Gallup (Christian Brothers Academy/Scotia) and Alex Lushkevich (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) will officially announce where they will attend college next year during a press conference in the Joe Bruno Stadium Clubhouse.
Gallup, a Scotia native and CBA graduate, will sign his baseball agreement to play for the University of Connecticut (Big East Conference) next season. A transfer from Stony Brook, Gallup saw action in 11 games last season on the mound, posting a 4-0 record with an ERA of 2.35, earning wins against Farleigh Dickinson, Fordham, Marist, and Maine. He was a member of the 2011 Stony Brook team that advanced all the way to the Division-I College World Series. Gallup played for the NYCBL Champion Amsterdam Mohawks this past summer and prior to that, played for the South Troy Dodgers elite team.
Alex Lushkevich, a graduate and native of Saratoga Springs, will sign his National Letter of Intent to play at the University at Albany (America East Conference) next season. Lushkevich was the shortstop and leadoff hitter for the Vikings last season. He was off to an impressive start before suffering a broken ankle when hit by a pitch on April 22, and missed the last eight games of the season. In 29 games, Lushkevich batted .380 with six doubles, four triples, two home runs, 31 runs scored and 21 runs batted in. His on-base percentage was .473 and he stole 19 bases in 20 attempts. He led the team in four offensive categories and ranked second in three others. Lushkevich played summer baseball for the Saratoga Stampede of the American Legion Baseball League, where he hit .376 in 157 at bats.
