10th Annual Race Away Stigma surrounding mental illness 5k is Sunday, Sept. 23

Please join us on Sunday, Sept. 23 for the 10th Annual Race Away Stigma 5k at Hudson Valley Community College. The Wellness Center at Hudson Valley Community College established the race 10 years ago to raise awareness of the stigma surrounding mental health and bring the community together to “race away” the stigma.

Registration is free for all Hudson Valley Community College students! Please click here for online registration. (A mail-in registration form can be found here.)

Our hope is to help create a change in the way mental health is perceived, by raising awareness about mental health and providing valuable information and resources for our students and community to explore and address their mental health concerns.

The “Race Away Stigma” 5k course starts and ends on Hudson Valley Community College’s campus. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23 with the race starting at 10 a.m. A free BBQ for all participants follows the race.

This year, we have expanded to involve other local colleges, to increase our number of participants and expand our message of addressing and eliminating mental health stigma. In past years, we have also had local mental health organizations set up tables at the event to provide information regarding mental health and their unique services, while showing support of our race participants.

Our event continues to grow year after year. We hope that you will consider joining us in our efforts to address, reduce, and eventually eliminate mental health stigma. Thank you for your time and interest in our event.

1st Place —  $100 Viking’s Cove Bookstore gift card
