The Historical Society of the New York Courts has announced its 2017 David A. Garfinkel essay topic: You, the Voter: How Far Have We Come? Is the Journey Over?
This scholarship is just for SUNY and CUNY community college students! All academic majors and departments are invited to enter.
Hudson Valley Community College student Elijah Fagan-Solis submitted the winning paper in 2008, The Courts and Human Rights in New York: The Legacy of the Lemmon Slave Case (read the essay here) and Melanie Hecker, a 2016 HVCC graduate qualified for the distinction of honorable mention in 2015 with her essay, LGBT: The Road to Equality — How Have the New York Courts Addressed Equal Human Rights for the LGBT Community?

SUNY 3rd prize $500
