DVD collection to move in January 2018 for improved access

Starting mid-January 2018, the Instructional Media Center’s DVD collection will relocate to an open browsing area within the Marvin Library Learning Commons. The purpose of the change is to improve access to the collection, allowing for discovery of award-winning documentaries and films across curricula. The DVD loan period will be three days for students and two weeks for employees.

Faculty who regularly use DVDs in the classroom have several choices:

  • Designate DVDs that will be used in the coming semester as On Reserve. The DVDs will then be limited to building-use only for the semester specified, with exceptions for the faculty member who placed them on reserve. Make these designations as early as possibly, preferably before the end of the fall semester. Use the Reserve Request Form or contact IMC staff member Donna Craver at 518-629-7198 or Jackie Bernard at 518-629-7382.
  • Borrow DVDs in advance of when needed to ensure their availability for use in the classroom.

New DVDs will continue to be purchased at faculty request as funds are available; when possible, the library will purchase streaming rights for online access.

Please contact library director Brenda Hazard with comments or concerns regarding this change in practice or other library or media services. Additional details regarding the DVD collection location and borrowing will be announced later in the semester.
