This week in athletics

 

Football (1-9) concluded the 2017 season Saturday, Nov. 11 after falling to The Apprentice School, 28-27, in overtime.

Trailing 21-14 with 3:13 remaining in the game, the Vikings marched down the field in 10 plays to tie the game up at 21-21 with 44-seconds remaining. Wesley Manning (Setauket/Ward Melville) completed the comeback drive with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Shaquille Edmond (Farmingdale, N.J./Wall) in the back of the end zone.

In the overtime period, The Vikings scored on their opening drive as the duo of Manning and Edmond connected once again for a touchdown pass in the back of the end zone, giving the Vikings the 27-21 advantage. The Vikings missed the extra point and opened the door for The Apprentice School to win with a touchdown.

The Apprentice School took advantage of the opportunity as Ethan Bryce scored on a five-yard run, tying the game at 27-27. Zack Schwenke converted the extra-point and secured the 28-27 win over the Vikings

Men’s Basketball (2-2) split games last week, defeating Jefferson at home on Friday, Nov. 10, 80-78, and then were defeated at Herkimer on Saturday, 88-69. Men’s basketball is home this Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m.

Women’s Basketball (2-1) also split games this past weekend. The women’s team lost a tough 79077 game to Jefferson on Friday night before bouncing back to defeat Herkimer on the road, 73-71, on Saturday. The women’s basketball team is back home on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.
