The Hudsonian, the official student newspaper of Hudson Valley Community College, is looking for new writers, photographers, and editors immediately for the Spring semester.
No experience is necessary and any Hudson Valley student may join. Please contact Julio Rodriguez, editor-in-chief, for more information and to join. Email Julio at hudsonian@hvcc.edu or call the newsroom at (518) 629-7444.
The Hudsonian is published weekly during the academic year. Its purpose is to serve campus and the community by providing timely news. Student staff members gain valuable experience in the creation and publication of a newspaper, with opportunities in journalism, the editorial process, layout, advertising, public relations, promotions, accounting and web design. The experience is an excellent addition to a resume and published work can be included in a portfolio. In addition, staff members develop many valuable networking connections, may attend national media conferences and are eligible for internship opportunities at local new outlets.
The Hudsonian has received national recognition and awards for the quality of its news articles and design, including:
- 3rd place recognition in the Apple Awards, Two-Year School category at the 2017 College Media Association’s National Media Convention in NYC
- 4th best entry in the Best of Show competition for two-year tabloids at the 93rd Annual ACP/CMA National College Media Convention in Philadelphia in Nov. 2014
- 9th in the nation in the Best of Show Competition in the newly expanded category for two-year colleges in Oct. 2015
The Hudsonian office is on the second floor of the Siek Campus Center, room 291, just upstairs from the Public Safety Office. Meetings are every Monday at 2 p.m. in ADM 107.
