Shakespeare & Company, one of the country’s premier theatre groups, will be returning for its ninth annual residency in the Maureen Stapleton Theatre, Feb. 29-23.
The residency culminates at noon on Thursday, Feb. 22 with a 90-minute production of Othello. The tragedy tells the story of Othello, a powerful gneral in the Venetian army, whose life and marriage are ruined by a conniving, deceitful, and envious solider. The performance is open to the public and appropriate for all, school age and up.
“If you have not seen a Shakespeare& Company performance before, you will be astonished by how accessible the language is and how compelling the play’s action and story become through the company’s skill and dynamic involvement,” according to Rosanne Raneri, theatre professor. “Shakespeare& Company members are well-known not only for their exuberant performances, but also for their compassionate and insightful approach to teaching.”
Workshops are open to all students
During the residency, company members will conduct a variety of workshops. Participants will interact with well-trained professional actors and instructors and enjoy dramatic play and activities.
The residency is especially valuable for actors and theatre-makers at any stage of training, but it’s an experience that anyone — whatever their field of study — can benefit from. Please feel free to share this information with other students and friends who may be interested.
