This week in athletics

 

Men’s and women’s bowling participated in the NJCAA National Tournament over the weekend in Cheektowaga, NY. The results were not received at the time of this post. Please follow up by visiting www.athletics.hvcc.edu for the latest bowling updates.

Women’s basketball (18-10) concluded its 2017-18 season after falling in the NJCAA Region 3 Quarterfinals 65-60 to North Country on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

The Vikings entered the final quarter trailing by two points, 44-42, and Taylor Engster (Troy/Catholic Central) took over for Hudson Valley, scoring 12 points in the final quarter and helped the Vikings grab a late game lead. With three minutes remaining, the Vikings had a nine-point advantage but were unable to hold on to the lead as North Country fought back and secured the 65-60 win. Engster finished the game with a game-high 21 points.

Hannah Kreiger (Brunswick/Tamarac) also finished with a game-high 21 points, including four three-point baskets made.

Men’s Lacrosse (2-0) continued its strong start to the 2018 season as they defeated Potomac State, 10-5, on Monday, Feb. 26.

Sophomore Aaron Thorpe (Malta/Ballston Spa) continued his dominating play for the Vikings as he finished with four goals and two assists for a game-high six points. Lateke Murray (Albany/Albany) also finished with a game-high six points as he scored three goals and added three assists.
