Those Who Toil Here, an exhibition featuring the work of Buffalo artist Timothy Frerichs and Hudson Valley Community College Fine Arts alumnus Michael Millspaugh, opens Thursday, Feb. 7 in the Teaching Gallery.
The artists will discuss their work at 3 p.m. in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center Auditorium, followed by an opening reception from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Teaching Gallery, located on the ground floor of the Administration Building.
Those Who Toil Here presents installations, drawings and mixed media works that depict our ties to the land.
Employing both analog and digital mapping techniques, Frerichs looks at our perceptions of and relationships to the natural world, and in recent installations explores the geographical and historical connections between commercial shipping on the Great Lakes and the Erie Canal and Buffalo’s Tifft Nature Preserve.
Michael Millspaugh’s absurdist humor and dry wit bear on his investigations through works that examine military aggression and the desire for a simple, peaceful existence.
The exhibition remains on view through Saturday, March 23.
Gallery hours are:
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday & Friday
1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday
noon to 4 p.m. Saturday
(closed Sunday & Monday)
