The Dental Hygiene Department at Hudson Valley Community College had a very busy week prior to Spring Break.
On Wednesday,, March 21, faculty and students volunteered to prepare meals for the homeless at Joseph’s House and Homeless Shelter in Troy, as well as provide Oral Self Care for the more than 40 residents in attendance. This was the departments second trip to the shelter to provide dinner and educational services this year
On Friday and Saturday, March 23-24, faculty and students volunteered at the annual Journey Through The Body Event held at Crossgates Mall. This event provides the community with a unique educational experience with numerous inflatable and walk-through models of the body’s various systems, including the brain, lungs and skeletal systems. Our faculty and students were able to educate those in attendance on the dangers of hidden sugars in common beverages, nutritionally good dental foods, as well as proper brushing technique on the “huge” mouth model and various puppets.
Thank you to my fellow faculty and students for making both programs a success!
