This week in athletics

 

Men’s lacrosse (7-3) has now won four straight games after they finished last week with a 2-0 record, defeating Mohawk Valley, 26-1, and Brookdale, 18-4. Sophomore Aaron Thorpe dominated the week with 14 goals, nine assists for 23 total points.

Baseball (7-5) has been playing great baseball and currently own a four-game win streak after sweeping doubleheaders against Mohawk Valley and Columbia Greene last week. The highlight from the week came from freshman Tim Cramer on Saturday when he pitched a perfect game in the Vikings 11-0 win over Columbia-Greene in game two. Jackson Wenstrom hit two home runs, including a grand slam that left Joe Bruno Stadium (literally), as the ball landed on the softball field fencing in deep right field.

Track and Field traveled to participate in the SUNY Delhi Invitational on Saturday. The men performed well with 11 top-10 finishes, led by Christian Otorubio. Otorubio placed ninth in the 100m event with a time of 11.86 and finished sixth in the 200m event with a time of 24.09. Jamison Jarosz placed fourth in the high jump with a score of 1.73m. Elijah Washington placed fourth in the hammer throw (40.45m) and Devin Kipp placed fifth in the shot put (12.08m)

Alayna Fredenburg led the women’s team with a fourth-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 30.94m and Ashley Martinez placed ninth in the 400m dash with a time of 1:08.45.

Softball (0-2) finally started its 2018 season on Saturday as they traveled to play Broome. In game two,  Matti Hayes and Paige Roberts led the Vikings at the plate as they combined for four hits in eight at-bats.

Golf played in two invitational matches last weekend — the Onondaga Invitiational and the Tompkins-Cortland Invitational. The golf team placed fifth overall at Onondaga, shooting a team score of 341. The results for yesterday’s Tompkins-Cortland Invitational were not available at the time of this post.
