Heating & Air Conditioning Control Systems

This course covers the fundamentals of electrical theory, including magnetism, circuits, transformers and motors. The emphasis is on motors and controls found in HVAC equipment. Classroom and lab time each week will include lectures and discussions. Reading assignments will be given from the textbook.
Upon completion of the course, you will be able to discuss and demonstrate a working knowledge of:
- Series and parallel circuits
- Various electrical meters
- Schematic symbols and diagrams
- AC and DC circuits
- Electric motors
- Electrical installation practices
- Contactors and relays
- Electrical control devices
- Solid state controls
Each participant will receive a training certificate of completion.
Prerequisites: Minimum 10th grade reading, writing and math skill levels. Students should have completed either the Workforce Development Institute courses “Heating Systems Service and Repair” or “Air Conditioning Systems Service and Repair,” or have prior knowledge in HVAC and electricity.
