Campus Corner: Athletics Department

The mission of the Hudson Valley Community College Athletics Department is to offer student-athletes the opportunity to participate in a competitive environment that fosters the highest levels of individual growth, self-discipline, respect, integrity and academic excellence.

Many colleagues might be surprised to learn:

  • The Athletics Department provides 18 varsity sports, which ranks Hudson Valley inside the top-10 nationally in terms of total number of sports offered to students.
  • The men’s outdoor track and field team won the 2018 NJCAA Region 3 championship in its first year back as an official varsity sport in more than 20 years.

“Fun facts” about Athletics:

  • Mike Muehling, Vikings head football coach, coached for the Green Bay Blizzard of the Arena Football League, which is the same league as the Albany Empire.
  • Justin Hoyt, Director of Athletics, worked for the Batavia Muckdogs of the New York-Penn League, the same league of the Tri City Valley Cats.
