An inability to maintain a sufficient or consistent power supply from the Cogen Plant is the cause of frequent power outages during the past week. Physical Plant and several outside contractors have teamed up to trouble shoot every aspect of the system.
Currently, we believe the power failures are related to the communication system that allows the electrical switch gear to communicate with the generator control system, and last night, repairs to fiber optic cable resolved the power failure experienced yesterday.
Today, several components of the communication system are being replaced or repaired. An industry expert also is traveling to campus from Buffalo to provide further consultation.
Please know that we are continuing to work toward a permanent solution, and we will keep the campus community informed of our progress. In the meantime, please save your work regularly and review communication plans for program cancellation if necessary.
