WDI’s photovoltaic program to take on solar project in Puerto Rico

 

Students enrolled in Hudson Valley Community College’s photovoltaic program, offered through the Workforce Development Institute, are working on a project to bring solar energy to an historic fort in Puerto Rico that could save lives in the event another devastating storm knocks out power for an extended period.

Some of the students actually are from Puerto Rico, but came north to study after solar system training centers there and in Florida were destroyed by Hurricanes Irma and Maria, according to Rich Bennett, associate dean of Continuing Education, Summer Sessions and Workforce Development.
