Constitution discussion today (9/19): The 25th Amendment and Article Two

Professors Allan Joseph and Robert Whitaker of the History, Philosophy and Social Sciences Department will facilitate a discussion on the 25th Amendment and Article Two of the U.S. Constitution at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 in the Drew Matonak Student Leadership Conference Center, CC-202.

The 25th Amendment allows the vice president to become president in the event of death, resignation, removal from office or impairment that prevents the current president from fulfilling his or her duties. Article Two requires the President of the United States to nominate Supreme Court justices, and with Senate confirmation requires justices to be appointed.

The annual event is part of a week-long recognition of Constitution Day (Sept. 17). The campus community is invited to attend.

The Student Senate in collaboration with the Student Activities Office, is currently sponsoring a voter registration drive, with support from the local chapter of the League of Women Voters, on the first floor of the campus center. The voter registration drive will continue throughout the week. Constitution booklets and American flag lapel pins are being distributed to all who visit the registration table.

Constitution Day is a federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787 when delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document in Philadelphia, Pa.
