DeAnne Martocci conducts workshop for Statewide Systems Advocacy Network

DeAnne Martocci, director of the college’s Center for Access and Assistive Technology, was one of three presenters during “Leadership and the Art of Advocacy in a Busy, Loud and Noisy World,” a daylong community outreach and education event offered Sept. 20 by the New York Association on Independent Living’s Statewide Systems Advocacy Network (SSAN).

Martocci’s workshop focused on embracing varied leadership styles, strategies to combat ignorance of important issues faced by people with disabilities, and creating cultures of ability and achievement. Other workshop topics included today’s unpredictable and volatile political climate, and increasing the voice and visibility of individuals with disabilities, especially those in vulnerable populations (i.e. immigrants).

The event was held at the Northeastern Retail Lumber Association in Rensselaer.
