Foster Youth Care Resource Fair on Oct. 11

The New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and Hudson Valley Community College are teaming up to support youth in foster care and promote their success.

Hudson Valley is hosting OCFS’s inaugural Foster Youth Resource Fair to raise awareness among youth and their families of  supportive  programs and resources in the Capital District. Representatives from local social services districts and voluntary agencies will be on campus to provide information and insights on the child welfare system on topics ranging from employment and career development to educational opportunities, financial literacy, health and wellness, LGBTQ issues, mentoring, youth leadership, and communication and life skills. Seventy-five to 100 high school students in foster care are expected to attend.

The Resource Fair is scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11 in the Siek Campus Center.

The Resource Fair is part of various community outreach projects for leadership, innovation and networking sponsored by the Enrollment Management and Student Development division. “Our objective is to work with community agencies that introduce the abundant academic programs and educational opportunities that Hudson Valley Community College offers, all designed to assist the college in meeting its mission,” according to Louis Coplin, interim vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Development.
