Women’s Tennis: The Hudson Valley Community College women’s tennis student-athlete Jacqueline Bornt won the NJCAA Region 3 Championship as the regionals top-singles player on Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Drumlins Tennis Center in Syracuse.

Bornt defeated Onondaga’s Micah Mixon in straight sets 6-1,6-0 to claim the No. 1 Singles Championship and in doing so, she has qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament on November 2-4 in Peachtree City, Georgia.

Cross Country: The Hudson Valley Community College men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed with the best cross country programs in the Northeast region and performed very well. The women’s team finished first among all of the participating two-year institutions and the men’s program placed second among all two-year programs.

Football: The Hudson Valley Community College football team (1-5) earned its first victory of the year behind a record-breaking performance by quarterback Nik Rango. The Vikings defeated Ithaca JV 42-22 on the road on Sunday afternoon.

Rango threw for a program record 412-yards with 20 completions on 33 attempts. He also tossed five touchdown passes to set the Vikings all-time record for touchdown passes in a single game.

Men’s Soccer: The men’s soccer team was off all week from competition and will be returning home this week to play Bergen at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11.

Women’s Soccer: Hudson Valley Community College women’s soccer (8-2-1) used three first half goals to defeat North Country 3-1 on the road on Sunday afternoon.

The Vikings were led by Sydnee Metzold and Brooke Clough as they combined for a record eight total points with three goals and two assists in the win. The Vikings leading scorer, Metzold’s two goals were her 19th and 20th goals of the season with Clough assisting on both.

Volleyball: The women’s volleyball team was home on Wednesday and were defeated 3-1 by Fulton-Montgomery. The team was off this weekend from pod play and will be back in action Wednesday, Oct. 10 when they travel to play North Country at 7 p.m. The Vikings return to pod play on Saturday, Oct. 13 when they travel to Fulton-Montgomery to play Mohawk Valley, Herkimer and Fulton-Montgomery.
