The deadline for submission of research papers for the 2012-2013 Dr. Joseph J. Bulmer Award for Excellence in Library Research is 5 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2013. This date is to ensure that the recipient is included in Students Honors Convocation, as well as Commencement. If this deadline is too early for your particular class(es), we encourage you to retain any papers you would like to nominate and submit them for consideration next year.
Eligibility
A student must be nominated by the faculty member for whom the research assignment was completed. The work nominated must have received a grade of A from the nominating faculty member.
Award selection criteria:
- Extensive bibliography with minimum of five sources and various formats
- Evidence of initiative, persistence and ingenuity in identifying sources
- Evidence of critical thinking in evaluating sources for credibility and appropriateness
- Correct citation format
- Free of plagiarism (papers may be reviewed using turnitin.com or similar software)
The Dr. Joseph J. Bulmer Award for Excellence in Library Research is selected annually by the Dwight Marvin Library faculty. The award recognizes a student’s outstanding accomplishment in library-based research.
Dr. Bulmer established the award in 1989 when he was president of the college. The library continued the tradition for 20 years by selecting multiple winners who received modest awards and recognition. Since 2009-10, one award of $150 has been presented from a fund managed by the college’s Foundation for the specific purpose of recognizing library research excellence. The award-winner is recognized at Student Honors Convocation, and also in the commencement program.
