Lynda Araoz publishes “The Weight of a Feather: A Mother’s Journey through the Opiate Addiction Crisis”

“The Weight of a Feather: A Mother’s Journey through the Opiate Addiction Crisis,” by Lynda Araoz, a long-time adjunct in the Department of English, Foreign Languages and English as a Second Language, is newly released by Morgan James Publishing.

“I wrote the book that no mother ever wanted to write. However, having gone through the whole experience, I wanted to reach out to other families to let them know that they are not alone in their struggles and that there is hope for recovery,” said Araoz. She’s already been asked to participate in five radio interviews/podcasts as word about the book is spreading.

In addition to teaching and writing, Araoz, who lives in Valatie, continues to advocate for better recovery services in New York State. She’s on the Board of Directors of Columbia County Pathways to Recovery, a volunteer on the addiction helpline for CCPR/CC4U, a member of Friends of Recovery-NY and the Rensselaer County Heroin Coalition.

Publisher’s description: “The Weight of a Feather” chronicles the relationship between a mother and her son on his journey into the dark world of addiction to his final recovery years later. Lynda Araoz is ruthlessly candid about the deception, betrayal, and violence inherent in the world of addiction, as well as the pitfalls and potholes on the pathway to recovery. However, she balances out the weight of her family’s struggles with lighter moments of connection to the son she once knew and the absurdities they encounter along the path to recovery. Above all, “The Weight of a Feather” is a testimony to the enduring strength of relationship. It brings comfort and hope to others who are going through a similar ordeal and provides insight for those who wonder why recovery seems to be so elusive. Lynda urges a fresh look at the world of addiction and a new model for its treatment in light of its impact on families across the country.

“The Weight of a Feather: A Mother’s Journey through the Opiate Addiction Crisis” is available from Morgan James Publishing, as well as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Chapter Indigo, Indie Bound and Kobo, to name a few.
