Mechanical Engineering Technology installs Robotics Laboratory in Amstutz Hall

The Mechanical Engineering Technology program has installed two Scorbot 4U robot arms in Amstutz Hall. Both robots are six axis robots designed for teaching robotics programming and maintenance. One of the robots is mounted on a one meter track providing a seventh axis of control.

Students in the technology programs will now have access to these robots as part of their instruction in manufacturing techniques. Students will be able to program the robots to perform basic manufacturing functions such as part handling, sorting and placement. The robots can interface with multiple objects and students will be able to use chips from their programming courses to command the robots. The robots will provide a welcome addition to the programming already being taught with machining code and three dimensional printing. The new robotics center has been created with the faculty and staff of the Mechanical Engineering Technology program, facilities, and the Information Technology staff.
