Hudsonian wins Third Place in National College Media Competition

Congratulations are in order to the staff of the Hudsonian. The college’s student-run newspaper recently placed third in the nation in the Best Newspaper: Two Year School category of the David L. Adams Apple Awards at the 2019 College Media Association Convention.

Members of the Hudsonian staff travelled to New York City for the convention on March 6. In addition to winning third place in the Apple Awards, they attended seminars, toured newsrooms and took part in team-building activities.

The Hudsonian staff will be recognized at the college’s monthly Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, March 26. Attendees will include Editor-in-Chief Jai Albright, Managing Editor Kevin Waltz, Copy Editor Hailey McLauglin, News Editor Angela Scipione, and Web Editor Nicole Scipione, along with advisor Rachel Bornn, who is a professor in the English, Foreign Language and English as a Second Language department at the college.

“The Hudsonian should be extremely proud of its third place showing in the 2019 College Media Association David L. Adams Apple Awards,” said Hudson Valley President Roger Ramsammy. “I congratulate Editor-in-Chief Jaimie Albright and his dedicated team for all their hard work. I also share my appreciation with Professor Rachel Bornn for her leadership and advisement of the Hudsonian staff over many years. It’s a team effort, and third place in this national competition is something the whole campus can be proud of. I salute our student journalists for this fantastic achievement.”
