What You Need to Know – Blackboard Test Interruption

When using a computer:

During a test on Blackboard, you will now be notified if you are no longer connected to the Internet. The message will continue to pop up for as long as you are disconnected. Do not leave the test if this happens. If you do, your answers will not save. Try to re-establish a network connection. Once reconnected, your selected answers should save and you can continue taking the test.

Please note: Once a timed test is started the timer will continue to run even if you are disconnected from the Internet.

Mobile devices (phones, tablets):

Using the mobile app (not recommended):

There is no notification that you are disconnected from the Internet. However, trying to submit a test with no connection will result in the attempt being saved as a draft to submit later. You will need to close the app then re-establish your connection. Once connected, you can open your saved test to submit.

Important: If Force Completion is enabled, you will be notified that the test must be completed during the session. Submitting a test while not connected to the Internet will trigger Force Completion causing your attempt to be submitted and your answers will not be saved. If this happens, contact the instructor immediately.

Note: The mobile app is not recommended for taking tests as it has demonstrated inconsistent behavior and may not display questions properly.

Using a mobile browser (not recommended):

Similar to using a computer, you will receive a message that your answers could not be saved. The message will continue to pop up for as long as you are disconnected. Do not leave the test if this happens. If you do, your answers will not save. Try to re-establish a network connection. Once reconnected, your selected answers should save and you can continue taking the test.

Note: Like the app, mobile browsers are not recommended for taking tests as they have also demonstrated inconsistent behavior and may not display questions properly.
