Week of the Young Child Activities Start April 8

 

The Teacher Preparation Department and The Education Club cordially invite members of the college community, and the community at large, to join us in celebration of the Week of the Young Child.

All presentations will take place in HGB 100 or HGB 101. Refreshments will be served.  All events are free of charge, except for the materials required for making slime at The Benefits of Slime workshop.

Monday, April 8, 2–3 p.m.  / Higbee 100
Jennifer Roy-Rozines
International Children’s Author
International author, Jennifer Roy-Rozines, will discuss the writing process and her best-selling children’s books. She has written a wide variety of children’s literature from non-fiction to a juvenile fiction series about sisters who trade places. Ms. Roy-Rozines is a former elementary school teacher turned author and is eager to share her adventures as a teacher and an author with participants.

Music Together

Music Together Music Specialist Whispering Pines Preschool
Come to this fun and interactive presentation given  by Carolyn Decker, a Music Together Specialist from Whispering Pines Preschool and learn about the Music Together Program. This participatory workshop will demonstrate how songs are presented to children who are both typically developing as well as with children who have special needs.

Autism: We are ALL on the Human Line

Developmental Disabilities Public Educator
NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities
The goal of this presentation is to increase an understanding and appreciation of people with differing abilities and disabilities with a focus on Autism. Participants will experience a variety of participatory activities to describe, explore, and analyze the causes, effects, and prevention of disabilities.

Benefits of Slime

Slime Shop Entrepreneur, Parakeet Slimes Shop LLC
Come learn the benefits of slime from a Slime Shop entrepreneur! During this workshop, attendees will learn about the benefits of using slime with children. Participants will explore different varieties of slime and even create their own!
Cost is $2 per person and the class is limited to 20 participants Pre-registration is necessary by signing up on the participant sign-up sheet located in Higbee 100 on The Education Bulletin Board. Questions can be sent to Ann Plourde at a.plourde@hvcc.edu.

Smiles for Life
Lauren Krohn and Ashley Nickolich
This workshop will provide early childhood educators with oral health resources that are practical and developmentally-appropriate for children. Lauren and Ashley are students in the Hudson Valley Community College Dental Hygiene program.
