The Sweet Plantain String Quartet will perform Thursday, Nov. 21 at noon in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center Auditorium. Admission is free to all.
Sweet Plantain is a refreshingly new quartet, one that “bridges the gap between generations and musical genres.” The four musicians came together from the Bronx, New Jersey and Venezuela to create a sound that is “contemporary, multicultural and very New York.”
It is a sound that fuses western classical traditions with hip-hop, jazz improv and Latin rhythms. Sweet Plantain tours extensively in the United States and around the world, and holds an apprenticeship program in the New York City public schools system under the sponsorship of Tony Bennett’s non-profit organization, Exploring the Arts (ETA).
This concert is presented by the Cultural Affairs Program.
