Friends of Oakwood present Hudson River Valley Ramble on Saturday, Sept. 21

The Friends of Oakwood will host a Hudson River Valley Ramble on Saturday, Sept. 21 that will include Tiffany windows, waterfalls and a 100-mile view. The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon.

Participants should register at (518) 328-0900 and pay upon arrival, $15 per person. Assemble at the Gardner Earl Chapel, located at the Oakwood Avenue entrance to Oakwood Cemetery.

Local historians Ned Pratt and Michael Barrett will lead the tour that will include the beauty and history of the Tiffany windows at the Gardner Earl Chapel. Learn about Louis Comfort Tiffany’s techniques, as well as see two spectacular examples by Maitland Armstrong. Other highlight will be a visit to Uncle Sam’s grave and the 100-mile view at the panoramic overlook.

This Hudson River Valley Ramble is co-sponsored by the Hudson-Mohawk Industrial Gateway. The Gateway will host an afternoon Ramble focusing on Troy’s Tiffany Treasures. Call (518) 274-5267 if you are interested in participating in the afternoon event.

The Friends of Oakwood is a 501(c)3 non-profit volunteer group working to support the preservation and maintenance of the non-sectarian chapel and grounds of Troy’s still-active historic 19th-century Oakwood Cemetery. New volunteers are always welcome; call the reservation line and leave a message.
