This week in athletics

 

Cross Country
The Hudson Valley men’s and women’s cross country programs competed in the Fred Pavlich Invitational hosted on Saturday morning by Bard College in Annandale-On-Hudson.

The women’s program finished the 6K race in 16th out of 18 teams. Hudson Valley was led by freshman McKenzie Ryan, who finished the race in 59th place and posted a time of 28:21.

The men’s cross country team finished their 8K race in 17th of 20 qualifying teams. Leading the way for the Vikings was Joseph Degiorgio. Degiorgio finished the race in 84th place with an official time of 30:41.

Football
Hudson Valley football (1-3) dropped a tough road match-up against Nassau, 28-12, on Saturday afternoon in Garden City, NY.

For the Vikings, Alex Dembroski finished the game throwing 22-for-37 for 159 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Melvin Reid was on the receiving end of Dembroski’s touchdown pass in the third quarter, which was a 12-yard touchdown reception. Reid finished the game with 43 yards on six catches. Daniel Manneh added 55 yards on seven receptions.

Defensively, the Vikings forced multiple turnovers in every game this season. Daniel Slade, Andrew Liverman and Jalen Davis each recorded an interception against Nassau.

Volleyball
The Hudson Valley women’s volleyball program finished the week 1-4. The team earned a 3-0 match win over North Country on Friday, Sept. 20. The volleyball program also competed at North Country’s NJCAA Region 3 pod tournament on Saturday in Saranac Lake and faced tough competition in Jamestown, Erie and Niagara.

Men’s Soccer
The men’s soccer program finished the week with a 1-1 record. Following a tough 6-0 loss at Mohawk Valley, the men’s program rebounded to defeated Erie 2-0 on Saturday at home. Marcello Fazio had another multiple goal day as he recorded both of the Vikings goals in the second half of the game.

Women’s Soccer
The women’s soccer team also finished the week with a 1-1 record. Following a loss at Mohawk Valley, the Vikings came out of the gates strong to defeat Erie 5-0 on Saturday. Bailey Dunn, once again, managed to save the one and only shot taken against the Vikings, leaving them with the 5-0 victory against Erie. Dunn now has four shutout wins on the season and 12 in her career.

Women’s Tennis
Hudson Valley’s women’s tennis team split its two matches this week,defeating Herkimer, 5-4, and then dropped a match against Mohawk Valley, 5-2 on Saturday.
