To ensure students enjoy a well-rounded collegiate experience at Hudson Valley Community College and to improve persistence, retention and graduation rates, two new components have been added to enhance the Freshman Year Experience.
The Student Services Town Hall Meetings will help students learn more about campus resources that support achievement. The monthly sessions will serve as an open forum for students to ask questions, and get helpful reminders of important dates and deadlines to ensure success throughout the semester. Kailey Loucks, director of the Freshman Year Experience and New Student Orientation, and Ian LaChance, registrar, are co-coordinators of the town hall meetings. Sandra McCarthy, campus coordinator of the Judicial Due Process and Title IX Officer, coordinates the off-campus town hall meetings at the College Suites Apartment Complex.
The first on campus Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 in BTC Meeting Room 1.
Leadership Skills Development Workshops also will be included as part of the Freshman Year Experience program. The weekly workshops will focus on building communication skills, public speaking, advocacy, community and civic engagement, domestic violence/Title IX and critical conversations on important current issues. The workshops will be held at 2 p.m. Mondays in the Student Leadership Conference Center, Siek Campus Center 202.
Please encourage students to participate.
