Last chance to see Dr. Etiquette at noon today

In a series of fun and interactive presentations, Dr. John Mellon, aka Dr. Etiquette, will demonstrate and discuss manners for dining, whether among family and friends or in a business/professional atmosphere, on Monday, March 24 and Tuesday, March 25. Sponsored by the college’s Student Senate and the Student Activities Office, Dining Etiquette is part of a leadership series of events designed to further prepare students for the career world.

Student sessions take place from 3 to 4 p.m. on Monday in CTR 150 and from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday in CTR 204 (Exhibition Room). The public is invited to attend on Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center Auditorium. Staff may attend any of the sessions.

Dining Etiquette will focus on understanding of place settings, handshaking and meeting new people, conversation at the table, introducing oneself at a function, when to sit or stand at the table, meal ordering, cell phone use and more.

An associate professor of Marketing at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania, Dr. Mellon teaches etiquette for educational institutions and businesses in his free time. He writes extensively and speaks at numerous conferences and symposiums on marketing, especially in the tourism and hospitality industry.

According to Dr. Mellon, knowing and understanding proper etiquette makes dining and related situations enjoyable and relaxing, and assures that everyone is comfortable.
