On October 1, 2019, the world lost an amazing individual with the passing of Abraham Bolgatz, the first director of the Educational Opportunity Center.
Abe served as director of the EOC (then known as the Urban Center) from 1967 until 1973. Abe went on to serve as the Dean of the Community Services Division of Hudson Valley Community College until his retirement from the college in 1984. Retirement from HVCC was not the end of his professional career, by any means, as Abe went on to work with SUNY and its Research Foundation for many, many more years. Even after leaving the EOC and the college, Abe always remained connected to the EOC, sharing both his wisdom and his wit, and always being ready to serve when asked.
Abe set the standard for what would forever define the Urban Center and the EOC. It was Abe’s hard work and vision that made the Capital District EOC the amazing resource it is for this community. He will be missed by all those who had the honor of working with him over the years.
