Planning Committee approves updated draft College Mission and Vision statements

 

The Planning Committee met on Monday, Oct. 7 to review the College Mission and Vision statements. After careful consideration of the comments made at the last Academic Senate meeting, and additional comments made on the campus-wide survey distributed by Dr. Will Miller, the Planning Committee revised the statements. The updated draft versions are presented below.

Mission Statement

Current:

Hudson Valley Community College’s mission is to provide dynamic, student-centered, comprehensive, and accessible educational opportunities that address the diverse needs of the community.

Draft approved by Planning Committee on Oct. 7, 2019:

Hudson Valley Community College provides transformative, student-centered and high-quality educational opportunities that address the diverse needs of local and global communities.

Vision Statement

Current:

Deliver what the future demands. The vision of Hudson Valley Community College is to position itself to meet the demands of a rapidly transforming world. In delivering a dynamic learning environment, the college prepares those it serves to meet the obligations inherent in being productive and responsible citizens and stewards of a global community.

Draft approved by Planning Committee on Oct. 7, 2019:

Deliver what the future demands. Hudson Valley Community College will meet the educational needs of a rapidly transforming world by leading today and anticipating tomorrow.

A brief (two question) survey was sent to all employees after the last Senate meeting. There were about 120 comments collected on the survey for each question. The survey results can be viewed in the campus-wide Blackboard Strategic Planning 2019-2024 organization under “Surveys” with the file name “Mission and Vision Survey October 2019.”

The Planning Committee has scheduled two open forums to receive any additional comments about the revised draft Mission and Vision statements before they are presented to the Academic Senate on Monday, Oct. 28.

The open Forums are scheduled for:

Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Marvin Library Multipurpose Room (room 235)
Thursday, Oct. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Marvin Library Multipurpose Room (room 235)
