Cross Country
The Hudson Valley men’s and women’s cross country programs competed in the Mountain Valley Conference Championship meet on Saturday morning in Herkimer where the women’s program claimed the conference championship for the second consecutive year!
The women’s team was led by the Mountain Valley Conference individual champion McKenzie Ryan. Ryan won the 5K race and posted a final time of 21:09. All six of the Vikings runners placed inside the top 15.
The men’s cross country team just missed winning back-to-back conference championships by one point. The men’s program placed second in the overall standings and was led by Joseph Degiorgio, who finished the four-mile race in second place with a time of 23:27.
Football
Hudson Valley Community College football (3-4) went on the road and faced the No. 14 ranked Monroe College in New Rochelle, NY. The Vikings were defeated by the nationally ranked Mustangs, 53-0.
The Vikings were able to protect the ball the entire game as their offense did not have a turnover for the second consecutive game. Quarterback Alex Dembroski finished the game with 111 passing yards on 15 completions, including a long 25-yard pass to Melvin Reid. Reid had a big game with nine receptions for 80 yards.
Volleyball
The Hudson Valley women’s volleyball team closed out its 2019 season last week and finished with a 2-3 record. The Vikings defeated Ulster and Orange, but fell in all three matches at Sunday’s pod tournament, hosted by SUNY Adirondack.
A highlight from Sunday’s pod was Katrina Vrooman’s performance in the Vikings five-set loss to Mohawk Valley. Katrina recorded a team-high 13 kills and did not have a hitting error all match and finished with a career-high and outstanding .684 hitting percentage on 19 attempts.

Men’s Soccer: Hudson Valley Community College men’s soccer (5-5-2) defeated Jefferson, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at the college’s Outdoor Athletic Complex.
The Vikings kicked off the first half with two quick goals by sophomore Ryan Willis. Willis connected on his shots, which were placed precisely into the top left corner of the net. Willis finished the game with a fourth career hat trick. Willis recorded three hat tricks during his freshman campaign last season.
Women’s Soccer
Hudson Valley Community College women’s soccer (10-3) defeated Jefferson, 11-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex.
The Vikings kicked off the first half with their first goal 15 seconds into the game. Brooke Clough recorded the assist as she found Morgan Catlin for the quick goal. Catlin would score another two goals for her first career hat trick and her sixth goal in the last three games for Hudson Valley.
Women’s Tennis
Hudson Valley Community College women’s tennis season ended on Saturday afternoon as the Vikings were defeated in the opening day of the NJCAA Region 3 Championships at Drumlins Tennis Center in Syracuse.
