Interdepartmental Health Sciences Simulation Day

Several programs in the School of Health Sciences were involved in an all-day simulation event that took place, Thursday, Nov. 21, in the new Nursing Department labs.

Students from the Paramedic, Respiratory Care, Nursing and Mortuary Science programs cycled through simulations that involved problem solving and interdisciplinary cooperation in the health care setting. Students worked together as a team to intervene, assess and evaluate simulated and standardized patients in a controlled environment.

Faculty members from every department developed the scenarios months in advance and provided professional feedback on a combination of several simulated scenarios.

In the planning stage, faculty members discussed scenarios that would bring the biggest impact to the simulation and went over supplies and equipment that would be utilized in each scenario along with written roles and dialogue for the standardized patients playing roles in the multidisciplinary simulation.

A similar program is also scheduled for the spring semester at the college’s Jordan Road site.
