Hudson Valley Community College Teaching Gallery Announces First-Ever Alumni Show

 

The Teaching Gallery at Hudson Valley Community College will present its first-ever Fine Arts Alumni Exhibition, on view Nov. 11 to Dec. 11, 2010.

Works in photography, sculpture, painting, drawing, video and mixed media by 17 artists who studied Fine Art at Hudson Valley between 1993 and 2006 will be displayed.

The Fine Arts program was founded in 1997 as a foundation-level program offering coursework in drawing, painting, two dimensional design, photography, art history and liberal arts. Graduates of the program have earned bachelor-s degrees at institutions such as The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Savannah College of Art and Design, Maryland Institute College of Art, Montserrat College, the School of Visual Arts, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The College of St Rose, The University at Albany, SUNY Purchase and SUNY New Paltz, among others. Students have gone on to attain their master-s degrees at The University at Albany, Vermont College, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Public programs related to the exhibit include an artist talk by Valerie Rafferty -06, BFA, Montserrat College of Art -08; MFA, The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (expected spring 2011), at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 in the BTC Auditorium, which will be followed by an opening reception from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Teaching Gallery. Both events are free and open to the public.

The Teaching Gallery is located on the ground floor of the Administration Building. All exhibits are installed and supported by students in the Gallery Management program. Gallery hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Wednesday, 1 to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.
