Matt Howe and Jennifer Eaton accept new appointments

I am pleased to update the campus community on two recent appointments.

Matt Howe is the new director of Retention and Student Outreach Services. He will be leading the Office of Student Outreach & Retention, which is committed to working collaboratively with all campus departments to facilitate, support, and promote programs and activities that give students the best chance for academic success. Matt will support the faculty and academic departments in the identification of and communication with students who are having difficulty in the classroom or with the college experience. He will run the student outreach program to assist students with their enrollment, registration and problems encountered during the course of the semester.

As our retention efforts often begin as interdepartmental programs, Matt will continue to work as student needs are prioritized, and will be working with all campus resources so that responsibility for an intervention or support program does not rest solely with one department or person. It is the institutional integration of these efforts that makes them both successful and sustainable.

Jennifer Eaton is the new Faculty Liaison and Coordinator  for the Center for Effective Teaching. She started at the CET on Jan. 20. Jennifer will continue the CET mission to create opportunities for faculty and staff to learn about technology, pedagogy, instructional resources, and best practices to enhance the effectiveness of teaching, learning and leadership at Hudson Valley Community College.

By partnering with both on-campus and off-campus resources, as well as SUNY profesional development programs, CET strives to consistently provide relevant and effective professional development opportunities for college employees. Jennifer will maintain the promotion of training sessions and workshops so all faculty and staff have the opportunity to take advantage of the resources provided by the CET. She is also teaching under the Math Department as part of her faculty role in the CET.
