Students in Hudson Valley Community College’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology program spoke to Civil, Industrial and Economic Engineering students at Isaac Newton University in Costa Rica via video conference on February 13.
Facilitated by Coordinator of International Student Services Dr. Jay Deitchman, instructor and recent alumnus Nicholas DeGeorgia brought his class to the Gene F. Haas Center for Advanced Manufacturing Skills conference room where they were able to connect with students at the Costa Rican university to discuss their college experiences.
Dr. Gerardo Arrieta, the rector (president) of the Costa Rican university, was visiting campus and interpreted the conversation between the two sites. His visit and the video conference exercise is part of a college initiative to create a partnership with Costa Rica and deliver education to international students where they live.
The use of interactive video conferencing technology may be a key factor in allowing education to be taught here on campus but received at sites as far away as Central America.
