SUNY Digital Learning Environment (DLE) Cohort 3 has launched — and we were there!

Distance and Online Learning and ITS Staff have begun meetings and training with SUNY DLE administrators, D2L, and other SUNY campuses in cohort 3 teams. We know that everyone at HVCC is excited to get started, just as we have been.

Early Fall 2022 – Prepare Blackboard Courses for Migration

  • Distance and Online Learning will participate in SUNY system-level training and create custom HVCC training materials.
  • HVCC DLE website with updates, tutorials, and training resources will be created.
  • Faculty will prepare their Blackboard courses for migration.
  • Faculty have access to the SUNY DLE website and training recordings if you want to preview the D2L. Brightspace environment before HVCC training begins.
  • Distance and Online Learning will provide migration course prep training.
    • Zoom and face-to-face group sessions
    • Scheduled open lab sessions for migration course preparation

Late Fall 2022

  • Faculty training begins on Brightspace when the HVCC tenant is ready.

Spring 2023 – Configuring Migrated Courses and New Courses in D2L Brightspace

  • Distance and online learning will provide course configuration training for migrated courses in D2L Brightspace.
    • Zoom and face-to-face group sessions
    • Scheduled open lab sessions for migration course preparation
  • Training on targeted and advanced strategies for replicating current pedagogical practices and workflows in the new environment — learning the new opportunities in the D2L Brightspace LMS — once we get our own instance.
  • SUNY has created D2L Brightspace course templates that campuses need to customize, and HVCC has been reviewing these. We will be proposing a few different versions for each modality and soliciting faculty feedback for multiple templates.
  • New fully-online faculty will build their training courses on D2L Brightspace.
  • Distance and Online Learning will customize the SUNY Student training materials to replace the current How to Use the Blackboard Learning System course.

Summer 2023 – Go Live

  • All classes will be taught on D2L Brightspace

Distance and Online Learning will do a presentation at the All-Academic meeting on Monday, Sept. 19, and distributing detailed information to departments on Blackboard course migration preparation, and D2L Brightspace features and functionalities.
