12 Days of Giving: campus-wide initiative begins Wednesday, Nov. 28

Dear Colleagues,

This is a personal invitation requesting that all members of the Hudson Valley campus community participate in a special project to “adopt” Joseph’s House and Shelter in downtown Troy this holiday season! I know that a lot of departments adopt families for the holiday season and give back to the community in various ways. However, wouldn’t be fantastic if Hudson Valley Community College was able to give back to the community as one?

Joseph’s House is a not for profit organization that services Troy, as well as the Capital Region. They have three facilities located throughout Troy. Their vision is to develop a community where everyone has safe and affordable housing, and their mission is to provide services to end homelessness. The requests for help from the homeless have been increasing steadily by 10% every year! Visit http://www.josephshousetroy.org/ for more information.

The plan is to collect much-needed personal care items and NEW clothing – especially cold-weather gear – for the shelter guests, both men and women. Our goal is to collect 1,200 items. That’s 100 items a day for 12 days! I am encouraging all employees to work as a team to make this goal a reality, although individual donations also are welcome!

As donations are collected, they will be highlighted in the Campus Chronicle as inspiration throughout the 12 Days of Giving that will conclude on Thursday, Dec. 13 (weekend days are not included). It is my hope that there will be at least one act of generosity or creative fund-raising tactic to mention every day of this giving initiative!

Here’s how you and/or your department/office mates can help meet our goal:
