The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society has four pillars: scholarship, fellowship, leadership and service. As a part of service, members of the HVCC PTK chapter have been volunteering at the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. The first such event of Fall 2022 was held on Sept. 26, when the volunteers sorted, boxed and packaged food items donated by grocery stores to be sent to local charities, food pantries and homeless shelters. Food items that are bruised are collected in separate containers for animal consumption.
The members brought with them the spirit of PTK, energy and enthusiasm needed for such activities, and at the same time found this to be an opportunity to connect with fellow PTK members that strengthen their fellowship. This fellowship activity helped them be a part of the process that reduces food wastage, and helps supply fresh, healthy food items to those in need.
