Sandra Gepfert is an Associate Professor and Program Director of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. She also keeps her professional skills up by working in the clinical setting at Ellis Medicine as the Ultrasound Educational Coordinator. Sandra holds a MS in Curriculum Development and Instructional technology from University of Albany. After spending over a decade in the medical field teaching sonography students, medical residents and Radiology Fellows, how to perform diagnostic sonography imaging at local hospitals, Sandra felt the need to improve and teach the skills necessary to master the skills of preforming diagnostic ultrasound in the clinical setting as well as the academic setting. Sandra knows what it takes to master the skills of instructing and performing ultrasounds effectively in a health care setting. Sandra started at Hudson Valley in Spring 2014 as an adjunct instructor for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, in August 2014 she started full time as the Program Director. With her position as Program Director, Sandra is required to review and update necessary curriculum development as well as maintain program records and report program outcomes to CAAHEP and JRC-DMS to maintain program accreditation. Sandra has worked as a content reviewer of Ovel: Sonography Exam Review: Physics, Abdomen Obstetrics and Gynecology the 3rd edition. Sandra has also worked with SUNY Empire State College as part of a team evaluating and revising Professional Learning Evaluation for Diagnostic Medical Sonography using her expertise as a professional sonographer and instructor in the allied health field to review the training titles and arrive at credit amounts. As part of the team she discussed the national curriculum and compared course descriptions and outcomes with sonography programs offered at other colleges to determine congruency of course titles, learning activities, level, and learning outcomes. She also discussed that learning builds on previous coursework and determined that as students progressed through the curriculum, had to integrate the basic knowledge of sonography with the demeanor of a health-care professional.

For about 2 years I traveled around the country working as a locum tenens sonographer from Seattle, WA to Boston, MA, Manassas, VA, and settled in Los Angeles, CA for 4 years teaching at Casa Loma college. Currently, along with working here at HVCC, I’m working part time for Saratoga Hospital as sonographer. I’m looking to become more involved in the school and its committees since I became employed here at HVCC. I’m hoping to put my education to the test by joining the Curriculum Committee.

One Term – Three Year Term – August 1, 2020 – July 31, 2023

Brenda Hazard
I am interested in serving on the Academic Senate to serve the interests of non-teaching professionals as well as all employees and students. From my position as library director, I routinely consider how to allocate resources, develop services, and create policies that serve the entire campus.  In the twelve years that I have been employed at the college, I’ve served on several of the senate’s standing committees: Educational Policies and Standards as well as Instructional Resources; in addition, I was a senator for several years.  My service demonstrates my commitment to shared governance. The college faces numerous challenges as it regains its footing after the pandemic and faces the stark realities of an austere fiscal climate. It would be a privilege to serve as a senator as the college prepares for its future.

John Staerker, NTP
I am a Technical Assistant at Marvin Library, a position I have held for over 19 years. I enjoy working at the Library, helping the students and staff; and I look forward to serving them in the Senate.

From past experience and in his current position he has had a view of many varied aspects of HVCC. He is currently a member of the Institutional Effectiveness Committee and the Planning Committee of the Academic Senate.
