Dear colleagues,
As we enter the holiday season, many of us are facing challenges that can be stressful. Taking care of yourself can better equip you to take care of others. During this time of year, it is particularly important to stay connected with your friends and family. Helping others cope with stress through phone calls and video chats can help you and your loved ones feel less lonely or isolated.
The following suggestions are healthy ways to cope with stress.
Take breaks from watching, reading or listening to news stories — including those on social media — that can be upsetting. Consider limiting the viewing or reading news reports to a couple of times a day.
Take care of your physical health:
- Eat healthy foods
- Exercise regularly
- Get plenty of sleep
- Avoid excessive alcohol, tobacco and substance abuse
Make time to unwind and to do activities that you enjoy.
Connect with people you can trust and talk with about your concerns and how you are feeling.
Stay connected with your community or faith-based organizations. While some social-distancing measures remain in place, use other means to keep in touch — social media, phone, email or snail mail.
Please take care of yourself and stay well!
