As the COVID-19 crisis continues, residents of Rensselaer County are facing layoffs and furloughs, and many are experiencing food insecurity for the first time.
On Monday, Aug. 10, Hudson Valley Community College is teaming up with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany and the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York to address food insecurity with a food distribution event on campus.
The food distribution, or “drive-thru pantry,” will be held on campus at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 10. The event is open to the public and no pre-registration is required.
In order to maintain appropriate safety and social distancing, there will be two distribution lines: a drive-through line and a walk-in line. Due to traffic concerns, those picking up food are asked to use the entrance on South Drive and not to arrive prior to the 9:30 start time.
This event is part of Catholic Charities’ mobile outreach initiative, “CC MOVE,” an effort to provide supplemental and emergency food in areas with limited access to services at time when many are struggling.
