Members of the HVCC Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society volunteered at the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY in Latham on Aug. 15.
The food bank collects large donations of food from various locations throughout New York State. With an ever-increasing demand for food, the food bank has even started hosting pop-up stations throughout the Capital Region. Volunteers packed boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables to be distributed to local charities, food pantries and homeless shelters. Any slightly bruised food was not discarded, rather it was collected in a separate bin to be distributed to local farms for animal consumption.
The PTK volunteers took this opportunity to help the community, one of the core values of Phi Theta Kappa. With its purpose of developing leadership and service, Phi Theta Kappa promotes academic excellence and fellowship for all its members. This is why members are proud to say #IAMPTK.
