Wellness Wednesday
Throughout the semester, the Counseling and Wellness Services Office will be posting tips and videos to boost your mental and physical health!

This week, we want to bring you a quick coping technique, the Box Breathing Technique. This technique is great when feeling anxious or overwhelmed! Simply being purposeful with your breathing can help clear one’s mind and relax our bodies.

Above is a graphic with an instruction for how to practice box breathing. Simply, breathe in through your nose for four seconds, hold that breath for four seconds, breathe out through your mouth over four seconds, then hold for four seconds before breathing in through your nose again.
Try to be conscious of how your body takes in and releases the breath through this exercise and keep using this box breathing technique until you no longer feel stressed! Learn more about the benefits of this technique in Cleveland Clinic’s How Box Breathing Can Help You Destress article.
For additional support, contact Counseling and Wellness Services to schedule an appointment with a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Our office is available for appointments Monday – Friday starting at 9 a.m., with our last session being scheduled at 3 p.m. You may call us at (518) 629-7320, email us at counseling@hvcc.edu or stop in at Siek Campus Center, room 260, to schedule an appointment.
Good luck with your classes!
