Dear Faculty and Staff of HVCC,
I thought a brief overview of the procedures for addressing matters of misconduct on campus was timely. We are all happy to have our students return but may be a little rusty in our processes and procedures.
For an immediate threat, please contact public safety. They will be able to address any situation immediately. Please do not contact Counseling and Wellness Services for emergency situations.
For matters you feel should be investigated as disciplinary in that some sanction may be imposed on a student, please take the time to fill out a public safety report. These reports are usually the best document to file to commence a disciplinary action.
For matters where you may believe services are warranted, but the matter does not rise to the level of a disciplinary public safety report, you may report the incident to any member of the Student Behavioral Assessment Team (SBAT). The SBAT team checks in regularly to track certain students who may be in need of services. Though the college, generally, cannot mandate services and confidential information is not shared in SBAT meetings, it is a chance for providers of student services to do some tracking.
To refer matters to SBAT, you may send an email to Fred Aliberti, director of Public Safety, who chairs the SBAT group. Referrals can also be made to any member of the SBAT group. In addition to Fred Aliberti, current members of that group are Sandra McCarthy, Larry Ellis, Claudine Potvin-Giordano, DeAnne Martocci, Alfredo Balarin, Michelle Bannoura, Ainsley Thomas, Howard Bancroft, Julie Warren, Louis Coplin, Andy Roberts, and Nicole Hayden.
Lastly, as you all know, students are entitled to services if they are or have been the victim of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking or sexual assault. If you become aware of someone, please contact me.
Thank you all so much,
Sandra J. McCarthy, JD
